Frequently Asked Questions
A central place for clear answers about the transition, your advisory team, and what to expect as you move into the C2 family-office experience.
Will my advisor change? Will my team in Butler change?
No. Your advisor and your Butler team will remain the same. Ethan and Curt are staying in place and will continue working with you through the transition. You’ll still meet with the same people, in the same office, with the same continuity of guidance and care you’re used to.
What will change is the level of support available around your team. As part of the C2 family-office planning model, your Butler advisors will now be backed by additional resources, including C2’s tax specialists, estate planning attorneys, and a dedicated C2 planning specialist who will help strengthen and enhance your financial plan. The goal is to keep the relationships you trust in place while expanding the expertise available to you.
If Curt is planning to retire, who will my advisor be?
Curt and Chris are not leaving at this time. They will remain actively involved through next year and will continue working closely with you throughout the transition. Their focus during this period is to make sure your plan, your preferences, and your history are carried forward with care, so nothing feels rushed or unfamiliar. You’ll continue to see the same faces, have the same conversations, and receive the same thoughtful guidance while the transition takes place.
When Curt eventually steps back, your advisory relationship will continue with the Butler office team you already know and trust. This team has been working alongside Curt and Chris for years and is deeply familiar with your situation and your goals. The intent is continuity, not change, so you’ll remain supported by people who understand you, your plan, and what matters to you.
When can I begin working with C2's estate planning and tax preparation teams?
Once your upgraded plan is in place. You’ll begin working with C2’s estate planning and tax teams after meeting with your advisor and receiving your enhanced plan. That plan becomes the shared source of truth across investments, tax strategy, and estate planning, and it is built around your specific risk, income, and legacy goals.
Once your plan is approved and implementation is underway, you’ll be fully onboarded to our tax and estate teams so everything can be coordinated thoughtfully on your behalf.
Will I still have my Annual Review this year? What if I have a Life Event?
This year, annual reviews will look a little different as we work to thoughtfully transition more than 700 families into the full C2 experience. Your transition meeting with your ASG advisor and a C2 specialist will serve as both your onboarding appointment and your annual review, allowing us to upgrade your plan while also reviewing your investments and any important updates.
If you experience a Life Event (such as a retirement decision, health change, major purchase, loss of a loved one, or anything that could significantly impact your plan) don’t wait for your meeting. We’ve reserved dedicated capacity specifically for these situations. Please call the office right away, and we’ll schedule time with your advisor to support you.
Will the tradition of Chris’s cookies continue?
Yes. Chris will still be baking cookies for the foreseeable future :)
Is there a minimum net worth required to work with C2?
No. There is no minimum net worth requirement. All ASG clients, regardless of net worth, will be able to work with C2.
Will my advisory fees increase?
No. Your advisory fees will not change as part of this transition. C2 will follow the same advisory fee model established by ASG.
In addition, for most ASG clients, platform fees associated with accessing investments through AssetMark are expected to decrease. This is the result of C2’s negotiated pricing with AssetMark, which allows us to offer the same investment access at a lower overall cost in many cases. Any changes to platform fees will appear directly on your statements.
Will all of my investments change?
Your plan will drive your investments. C2 and ASG use the same custodian (Fidelity), the same investment platform (AssetMark), and many of the same portfolios. However, as you transition into C2’s family-office-style services, your financial plan will be enhanced, and your asset allocation may evolve to better manage risk, reduce taxes, and align with your long-term goals.
At C2, the plan drives everything. We start by building a comprehensive plan that integrates investments, tax strategy, and estate planning, and then we design the investment strategy to support that plan. Based on when and how distributions are taken from different accounts, assets are organized into red, yellow, and green zones within a “buckets-within-buckets” framework.
To better understand how this philosophy works in practice, we encourage you to watch C2’s Investment & Risk Mitigation Philosophy video on the Educational Videos page: https://c2privatewealth.com/asg/steps.
Will I need to move my assets from Fidelity? Will there be any changes to AssetMark or the availability of annuity carriers?
No. Both C2 and ASG use Fidelity as the custodian, so your assets will remain at Fidelity and your custodial relationship will not change. There will also be no changes to AssetMark or to the availability of annuity and insurance carriers.
C2 and ASG share the same relationships with AssetMark and the same insurance partners, which means you’ll continue to have access to the same platforms and products you use today, with full continuity going forward.
Will you still be accepting new clients?
Yes, but not right away. We expect to begin accepting new clients again in 2027. Throughout 2026 and most of 2027, we will be pausing new client onboarding so that our full attention can stay on our existing ASG clients as they transition into the enhanced C2 family-office experience. This work involves rebuilding plans, coordinating tax and estate strategies, and making sure every detail is aligned, and we want to do it with the level of care and thoughtfulness our clients deserve.
During this period, our priority is depth over growth. We’d rather slow down new-client intake than dilute the experience for the families who have already placed their trust in us. By the time we reopen to new clients, our goal is to have every existing client fully transitioned, confident in the new model, and experiencing the benefits of the expanded planning support.
Will there be additional fees for the estate planner and CPA?
Yes. Tax preparation and estate planning are billed separately by our tax and estate planning partners, and those services carry their own annual fees. Your advisor will review any applicable fees with you ahead of time so you have a clear understanding of what’s included and what any additional costs may be.
We also work closely with our partners to ensure fees are fair, transparent, and aligned with market rates, and we’ll help you evaluate whether the services are a good fit for your needs before you move forward.
Will you still be holding events and the ambassador program?
Yes. We will continue hosting annual client appreciation events, and we are excited to carry forward the Ambassador Program established by Curt and Chris. These gatherings and relationships are an important part of the culture and community that ASG has built over the years.
At the same time, we will be blending in the C2 approach, which places a strong emphasis on education-focused experiences that help clients feel confident and secure in their plan.
We are especially grateful for our ASG Ambassadors, and particularly our Lifetime Ambassadors, whose trust, advocacy, and partnership have meant so much to the firm. We look forward to continuing these traditions together in the years ahead.
How long will the transition take?
About 18 months. Our goal is to bring every ASG client into the C2 Private Wealth family-office services model by the end of 2027. We are welcoming hundreds of households into this enhanced framework, and each transition takes approximately 3–5 months so we can thoughtfully integrate your financial, tax, and estate planning. Throughout the process, you’ll receive regular updates and guidance from Kirk, Curt, and the Butler team, so you’ll always know where you are in the journey and what to expect next.
This transition has been in development for more than a year, and we’ve designed it to be both efficient and high-quality. Our priority is to move as quickly as we can while still taking the time to do things carefully, accurately, and with the level of care our clients deserve.
